In April of 2011, my short screenplay Maria and Joey, which tells the story of a single-mother’s fight to survive the flood waters of Hurricane Katrina, was a Finalist in the screenplay competition of the Ivy Film Festival.
Unfortunately, my screenplay did not win, but this was the first time my film writing had ever been recognized—at a festival or otherwise—so it was a great honor.

The awards announcement on the Manhattan International Film Festival website. The festival was put on by the World Youth Alliance. My film “The Garden” won the World Youth Alliance Artist Award, “a prize for the most creative cinematography that seeks new ways to express human ideas.”
